VISION

SIETAR Canada envisions an inclusive, equitable world where cross-cultural communication and competence thrives, marginalized and centred voices are equitably valued, and Indigenous and migration perspectives are integrated.
MISSION
SIETAR Canada promotes intercultural competency and racial literacy to foster inclusive cross-cultural relationships. It encourages the development of knowledge and skills for mutually beneficial communication across diverse cultures, races, ethnicities, identities, and abilities, advocating for the inclusion of marginalized communities. Through education, research and engagement, the society fosters inclusivity at all levels and ensures all voices are heard and valued. As such, SIETAR Canada aims to have a clear association with other SIETAR national chapters and find ways to work with them.
VALUES
"
Inclusivity & Equity: The organization explicitly seeks an inclusive, equitable world where all voices are heard and acknowledged, and marginalized communities are not just included, but equitably valued.
Cultural Competence: Promoting the knowledge and skills that enable mutually beneficial communication through an understanding of cultural competencies and dimensions, informed by research, practice, and lived experience.
Diversity Literacy: Actively dismantle systemic and personal barriers, foster healthy cross- cultural relationships, and grow appreciation for the richness of differences across cultures, ethnicities, nations of origin, race, language, age, abilities, and other areas of difference.
Reciprocity & Mutual Benefit: Situating communication and relationship skills to be stronger together, starting by emphasizing deep respect, seeking to share power, accepting that difference brings challenges as well as opportunities.
Pluralism & Centred Perspectives: By actively integrating Indigenous and migration views of the world and experience, we value multiple ways of knowing and commit to shifting focus to also embed historically marginalized viewpoints.
A Senegalese poet said ‘In the end we will conserve only what we love. We love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.’ We must learn about other cultures in order to understand, in order to love, and in order to preserve our common world heritage.
