Did you know that our story began more than
50 years ago?
 

In 1974, a group of professionals passionate about intercultural understanding came together to create the Society for Intercultural Training, Education and Research (SIETAR). What started as a small interdisciplinary network has grown into the world's largest community of intercultural professionals, connecting more than 3,000 members through 15 national and regional organizations across the globe.

Here in British Columbia, SIETAR BC was founded in 1992 as a not-for-profit organization. Since then, we have been dedicated to promoting meaningful intercultural dialogue, fostering collaboration, and creating opportunities for learning, connection, and the exchange of ideas—locally, nationally, and internationally.

Our members come from diverse sectors, including education, business, consulting, government, healthcare, non-profit organizations, migration services, and international development. This diversity of perspectives is one of our greatest strengths, and we welcome anyone who shares our commitment to building intercultural understanding.

And here's the exciting part...

Today, we are no longer just SIETAR BC.
 

We are SIETAR Canada.

Our new name reflects a bigger vision and a broader reach. While we're proud of our British Columbia roots, we now represent and connect intercultural professionals from across the country, strengthening Canada's voice within the global SIETAR network.

It's more than a name change—it's an evolution. A stronger national community. Greater opportunities to collaborate. Wider access to knowledge and professional connections. And an even greater impact as we work together to advance intercultural understanding across Canada and beyond.
